A transplant from Knoxville, Tennessee, Katie graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a minor in Mandarin Chinese. During her college years, she worked as a student ambassador for the UT Confucius Institute, was involved heavily in the Chinese Culture Club, and received scholarships to study abroad in both China and Taiwan. In addition to teaching English in Taiwan with the Fulbright Program during the 2018-19 school year, Katie has worked as a teaching assistant and tutor in various locations, from California to North Dakota to Tennessee. She joined our team in 2019. In the summer of 2021, she completed the Fargo-Moorhead STARTALK Chinese Teacher Retreat—a 120-hour program with an emphasis on integrating culture and implementing technology into language teaching toward proficiency. Unsurprisingly, she enjoys traveling. In her free time, Katie also enjoys reading sci-fi books, watching Chinese reality TV, attempting to learn Japanese, playing board games, and doing jigsaw puzzles.
