Traditions
After opening our doors in 2001, we have established numerous time-honored traditions. These programs and events bond past, present, and future Seven Hills students, faculty, and family members.
Some Seven Hills Traditions
At the beginning of the school year every new boy and teacher is sorted into one of four houses: SWAMBIE, Knights, Unknown Prophecies, or Midnight Blues. Houses earn points throughout the year through competitions and good behavior, all in hopes of winning the highly coveted House Cup!
We start the year with a week of fun activities designed to bond students and teachers, and ease back into the academic mindset. We celebrate the end of the year the same way!
What is Camp Week?
Each student leads a meeting after fall and spring interim grade reports to discuss their academic progress with their parents and teachers.
The entire school heads up to Washington, DC to explore the Mall -- and eat astronaut ice cream at the National Air and Space Museum! Eighth graders enjoy an overnight trip which included visits to the Supreme Court, Union Station, the Library of Congress, national monuments, art museums, and dinner in Chinatown.
Students in each language track square off against one another in a series of events like chariot racing and running with the bulls.
At the end of the first semester, we all go rock climbing. The boys also set personal and academic goals for the rest of the year and give suggestions on how to improve Seven Hills.
Sixth and 7th graders spend the day exploring legendary RVA locales like the VMFA, Hollywood Cemetery, and the Byrd Theater. Eighth graders spend the day sharing advice with Bridge about navigating middle school.
Students create unique costumes and present them through skits and musical numbers.
