Democracy and Community
Xavier C.
Democracy and community are two very important ideas for our country to work the way it is intended. I believe that neither democracy nor community can work without each other. Democracy needs a community so that the candidates of any office can represent their community. Democracy also needs a community to vote, and if a community wants leaders it needs a democracy so no one person has all the power.
If a candidate could not represent their community, they would have no town to come back to and feel accomplished. This would make said community have no representation and would have a negative impact on people in that town. With no democracy, a candidate could come from the same hometown every time and the other states or towns would have no representation. With democracy, however, a candidate could come from anywhere and have the same shot of winning as anyone else in the race. Democracy has an effect on communities that results in a positive feeling for people who want to run but are not well known.
Democracy creates equal representation so that every vote matters the same amount. The voters get to choose who their vote goes to in the race. This system, however, would not function properly if there was no community to vote in the first place. If a community did not want to set up polling places or just not vote entirely, then you would not be able to get an actual representation of the votes in the area since there would be no votes in the first place. Democracy would not work if there was no community to cast votes.

If a community does not want a form of dictatorship, they need a democracy. If only one person had all the power, they could do anything they wanted, get away with it, and nobody could really stop them. This person could have only their needs in mind and not the people’s or community’s needs. This might cause people to leave the community because they could think that they weren’t being heard or that the government was being cruel. Democracy gives the people a leader that the people want and one that is not able to have all of the power.
In conclusion, a democracy needs a community to vote and to send people from all over for equal representation and so everyone is satisfied. A community needs a democracy to make sure no one gets all of the power, and a leader that is likable, so that people can be satisfied. If we had only one or the other the country would not be stable and might end up as a monarchy or under totalitarian rule. Totalitarian rule is cruel and unjust. That is why I believe that we need both democracy and community to have a functioning country.
