The Windeby Puzzle

The Windeby Puzzle is an odd book, but it’s very cool. Lois Lowry, the same author who wrote The Giver, imagines two possible lives that could have been lived by a real historical figure. In the 1950s, a well preserved body was discovered in modern day Germany that dated back to the Iron Age (1200 to 550 BC). Lowry uses clues and what we know about history to write a story about what could have possibly happened to this “Windeby Girl” before acknowledging new discoveries and adjusting the story. She writes notes at the end of each story describing her thinking, process, and the practice of historical thought and detection.
