The Grimmer
Set in the 1990s, The Grimmer opens with 15-year-old Vish returning home from two years spent away at a boarding school while his father recovered from issues with substance abuse. One of his first stops is his favorite bookstore, where he encounters a strange man who seems to be literally falling apart. He has accidentally stumbled into a plot centuries in the making, with a horde of souls preparing to take over the bodies of everyone in his town. Vish must team up with the bookstore owner and teen witch (who is actually over 100 years old) Gisela to save his town. The Grimmer is legitimately fairly creepy at times, and the way magic works in this world is unique and very cool. For example, Vish travels into a television to talk to a long dead witch at one point. If you like the best parts of Stranger Things, this book is definitely for you!
